What is love? I would ask you to just stop reading this, close your eyes, be still and ask yourself the question, “what is love to me?” and wait in silence for an inner response…
Whatever your experience is, it is yours: it is what love is for you. The deeper you go and the more still you become, the more you are able to experience love directly. The more you experience love, the more you are able to realize your True Nature as love.
When turning within, becoming still and asking, “what is love to me?” I feel a movement, a current or flow within my heart. This current feels like the natural movement of a river. When my thoughts are still and my heart is open, I can feel this flow and its constancy carries me easily and effortlessly along through the many changes of my life. In this loving current, I am relaxed and able to deal with challenges from a centered perspective. I feel the flow of divine wisdom within me and am guided at every turn. I let go into the flow of this inner trust and am carried along in loving harmony.
If I react fearfully to a perceived difficulty, the awareness of this inner current of harmony vanishes and I experience mental contraction. The feeling is like that of a tensely held, closed fist. My forehead furrows. I am experiencing a lack of trust in the flow and am suffering. I remain in this contracted state until I remember that there is an alternative to resisting outwardly in fear and that is the flow of love within me. I gather the courage to loosen the grip of my mental fist, relax and open up again to the flow of love within me. Once again I am free in the current of trusting love.
Unity co-founder Charles Fillmore wrote, “In Divine Mind, love is the power that joins and binds in divine harmony the universe and everything in it; the great harmonizing principle known to man.” We all have experienced this love and it is ever here within, waiting for us to let go into its current. Let’s remember to remember love. Let’s be the love we are, our True Nature!
